Health and Safety

Safety Notes / Government Regulations

Fireworks:

  • You MUST NOT set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am, except for: Bonfire Night, when the cut off is midnight, New Year’s Eve Fireworks, Diwali Fireworks and Chinese New Year Fireworks, when the cut off is 1am. During the rest of the year, it is a criminal offence to light fireworks between 11pm and 7am. It is also extremely anti-social, disturbing to nearby residents and distressing for pets. If you are organising a large display, we advise you to inform your neighbours in advance (even if the display is before 11pm or after 7am).
  • We encourage safe and legal use of fireworks at all times. Please do not be a nuisance to others.
  • You must be over 18 to buy fireworks and sparklers. We advise you to always have photo ID to hand, as we reserve the right to check your identification.
  • Due to the nature of the items sold (explosives), we cannot accept returns of any of our Fireworks, Smoke Grenades, Smoke Effects or Pyrotechnics.
  • We are fully licensed by the Government to sell consumer fireworks (Category 1, Category 2 and Category 3) to you all year around.
  • Do not cut corners by purchasing fireworks from an unauthorised seller such as from the back of cars/vans/mobile traders/market stalls etc. These fireworks could be potentially dangerous and illegal.
  • Follow the instructions on each firework. For garden fireworks, we advise a minimum safety distance of 5 metres. For display fireworks, we advise a minimum safety distance of 25 metres.
  • No persons under the influence of alcohol or drugs should be involved in the handling or firing of fireworks.
  • Store fireworks in a closed tin or box, away from children's reach.
  • Do not rush to light fireworks. Read the instructions on EACH firework carefully, in advance.
  • Light all fireworks at arm’s length using a portfire.
  • Be sure to secure each firework appropriately. We advise you to place bricks around barrages, to prevent them from falling and injuring the audience. For rockets, you must have a large bucket with soil (or somewhere to dig the rocket launching tube) and ensure the rocket is angled away from the audience and is free to run before firing. DO NOT dig the wooden stick end of the rocket into the soil, as this will cause the rocket to explode on the ground and not in the sky.
  • NEVER go back to a lit firework, even if the firework has not worked. Do not attempt to tamper with the fuse whatsoever. After 30 minutes, dowse the firework in water or dry powder and leave for 24 hours.
  • Never put fireworks in your pocket.
  • Never throw fireworks.
  • Always supervise children around fireworks.
  • Light sparklers one at a time and wear gloves.
  • Never give sparklers to a child under five. Ensure that children wear gloves when handling sparklers.
  • Keep pets indoors.
  • It is illegal for anyone under 18 to possess fireworks in a public place.
